What URL formats does a Telegram QR support?

Does the QR open the Telegram app or the browser?
Depends on whether Telegram is installed. With Telegram installed on iOS or Android, the standard t.me/ URL opens directly inside the app at the destination. Without Telegram, the t.me/ URL opens in the browser, showing a landing page with an Open in Telegram button that prompts an install. The tg:// deep-link scheme skips the browser on installed devices but fails on devices without the app. Only use deep links when every scanner is guaranteed to have Telegram.
Can I link to a private group?
Yes. Generate an invite link inside Telegram (Manage Group, Invite Links, Create a New Link). The link comes back in t.me/+<hash> format. Encode that URL. Scanners land on a Join Group prompt; if the link requires admin approval, the scanner is queued rather than auto-added. One caveat: if you revoke or regenerate the invite link inside Telegram, the printed static QR points at a dead URL. For printed private-group QRs, always use a dynamic code so you can repoint the link in the dashboard.
