About vCard QR Codes

vCard QRs ride the BEGIN:VCARD ... END:VCARD format — the universal contact-card standard that's powered every "save contact" exchange since the 1990s. The QR encodes a full multi-line vCard with name, phone, email, company, job title, website, and address. The scanner's camera decodes it and the OS shows a native Save Contact dialog with every field pre-populated. The person taps Save and you're in their contacts forever.

The alternative — handing them your card, them squinting at the print, them typing 15 fields into their address book later (or never) — fails 80% of the time. A printed paper card without a QR ends up in a drawer; a card with a vCard QR ends up in the saver's phone within seconds of the handshake. For real estate agents, recruiters, consultants, conference networkers, and any role where the goal is "be in the prospect's contacts" — this is the single highest-leverage QR type.

EZQR generates vCard QRs free with no watermark, no signup, and no expiration. The vCard data lives entirely inside the QR pattern — there's no server lookup, no internet needed to save, no dependency on EZQR running. Print a card today; the QR keeps saving contacts forever.

Walkthrough

How to Create a vCard QR Code

  1. Fill in the core contact fields

Name (first + last), mobile or work phone in international format (+1 555 123 4567), business email, company name, and job title. These five fields produce the cleanest, most-saved vCards. Don't cram every optional field — denser QRs scan slower.

  2. Add website and social handles selectively

Website URL goes in the URL field — typically your booking page, portfolio, or company site. LinkedIn URL works in the URL field too if that's the primary destination. Each added field increases QR density; pick the 1-2 destinations that actually matter.

  3. Brand the QR with your colors and logo

Match your business-card or email-signature palette. Logo in the center, under 20% of the code area. Keep contrast above 4:1 between modules and background. A branded vCard QR on a paper card reads as a legitimate professional asset; a stock black-on-white QR reads like a phishing sticker.

  4. Download SVG for business-card printing

SVG is the format business-card print shops want — it scales to any card size without losing sharpness. PNG for digital signatures, email footers, and Slack profile photos. PDF for full-print-shop orders. Minimum 2 cm × 2 cm on business cards (close-range scan).

  5. Save your own contact to test

Scan from your own phone first, tap Save, and inspect the resulting contact in your phone's address book. Verify every field saved correctly — name spelling, phone country code, email casing, URL protocol. A typo in 500 printed business cards is a $200 reprint.

Where it works

vCard QR Code Use Cases

Business cards for sales, real estate, consulting, and anyone whose job is "get into the prospect's phone" — replaces the paper-card-in-a-drawer failure mode.

Conference badges and lanyards at trade shows where networkers swap contacts in the booth aisle without exchanging paper or fumbling with LinkedIn QR codes.

Email signature footers where mobile recipients scan from the screen and save the sender's contact during the call — eliminates "let me add you" follow-up emails.

Recruiter handouts at career fairs where candidates scan the recruiter's card and the recruiter scans the candidate's LinkedIn or link-in-bio QR — bidirectional contact capture.

Storefront and reception-desk window decals so visitors save the business contact before leaving — useful for service businesses, salons, dental offices, fitness studios.

Real estate agent yard signs — curious passers-by scan, save the agent's contact, and have the number when they walk back to the car ready to call.

Lawyer, accountant, and consultant cards where the prospect needs to text the professional from the parking lot of the courthouse, IRS office, or hospital.

Wedding photographer and venue planner business cards passed at engagement shoots — couples save the contact while emotions are high, instead of misplacing the card under bridal-shop receipts.

Funeral home, hospice, and elder-care service cards where the recipient is overwhelmed and unlikely to type a phone number — the scan saves the contact at the moment they'll need to call.

What works in practice

vCard QR Code Best Practices

Don't cram every field. Name + phone + email + company + title produces the cleanest, fastest-scanning code. Adding street address, fax, and notes makes the QR denser and slower to scan on older phones.

Use international phone format (+1 555 123 4567) so contacts from other countries can call correctly. Without the + and country code, saved contacts may not dial from SIM-toggled travelers.

Set the primary email to a monitored business inbox, not a personal address. The whole point of getting saved is being reachable; saving to a dead inbox erodes trust the moment the recipient first messages you.

Verify the saved contact by scanning from your own phone and inspecting the resulting address-book entry. Every field. Typos in 500 printed business cards are catchable in 30 seconds and uncatchable after they're out.

Use a dynamic vCard QR (Lite plan, $5/mo) if you change jobs frequently or expect a title change within the card's print life. Update the vCard from the dashboard; the printed card keeps saving the new contact info.

Print at minimum 2 cm × 2 cm on business cards (close-range scan), 4 cm on table tents and trade-show signage, 8 cm on window decals scanned from the sidewalk. The 10:1 rule applies.

Pair the QR with a CTA: "Scan to save my contact" or "Scan, tap Save, done". Naked vCard QRs convert at half the rate of QRs with adjacent prompt copy that pre-frames the destination.

Use Unicode-friendly fields for names with accents or non-Latin scripts — José, François, 김민서, محمد. Reputable generators handle Unicode in the vCard payload, but verify the saved contact renders correctly across iPhone and Android before scale-printing.

For multi-language audiences, generate separate vCard QRs per language with the localized job title — CEO on the English card, Directeur Général on the French. One QR per language.
